CT4: Carson Davis Brown

Collator Crew (at Issue Press)
Collating parties are the new “barnraising”.
Cabin-Time: Wilderness Field Guide, can’t wait!
JONATHAN CHERRY: When did you last see the sunrise?
CARSON BROWN: Right after this past new year, it was an early morning road trip north with some friends. Pretty sleepy and for some reason we were listening to a book on tape about wolves or something. It was perfect.
JC: Are any emerging artists inspiring you at the moment?
CB: Here are some music artist that are on repeat right now: XXYYXX, Pegase & Tonstartssbandht. Mary Rothesburger is an artist from Palouse, WA. I love her work, but I think her most beautiful, inspiring project is the way she lives her life. Brett Carlson’s work always gives me that good jealous feeling, where you get excited about doing your next project better. I guess that’s what inspiration is.
JC: What is your current project all about?
CB: Most recently I was the ‘documentarian’ for the roaming artist residency Cabin-Time. Such a fun group/project to be apart of. For me it involved a short film, photos, and I’m putting together a little zine that will be available at the show. I can’t say enough good things about CT and all the inspiring/creative people that I’ve met though it.
JC: Where are you currently living and how is it shaping you?
CB: I’m currently living in Grand Rapids MI. For a smaller mid-west city there’s a pretty strong creative community, which I’m happy to be apart of. These’s also something beautify about Michigan in every season.
JC: One piece of advice to recent photography graduates?
CB: Be nice, ask questions, and work hard.
JC: Any big plans for 2013?
CB: I’ve been talking about a few trips with friends; Nova Scotia, Pacific Northwest, NYC, and a Colombian road trip. Not sure if I’ll be able to do them all, but definitely 3 out of 4.
JC: Favourite tree?
CB: Ones with forts.
